Rib n Roll Road Closures

The Rotary Rib n Roll is coming to town on May 25-27 and here are the details of the road closures for this event.

Location: Wellington Street West will close from George Street S. to Main Street S.

Dates: May 26 - 27

Times: May 26 at 12:01 am - May 27 at 11:59 pm

 

Hydro Vault Upgrade at 21 Queen St. E

Hydro plans to upgrade the underground vault located in front of 21 Queen St E(east of Main St on the south side), commencing May 21, 2012 with a completion date of June 15, 2012. Due the nature of the work the sidewalk between Main St. and Chapel will be closed during construction.

Pedestrians will be directed to use the north side sidewalk during work hours. After work hours and on weekends they will be placing jersey barriers to allow for pedestrian traffic. Hydro will need to occupy 5 parking spaces during construction.

Post AGM Announcement

The annual General Meeting of the Brampton Downtown Development Corporation was held in the Rose Theatre last night.

 

An estimated 50+ members and were in attendance. The pre-meeting reception was catered by a number of member restaurants: Maroli, Freshly Thai, Fanzorelli’s, Shushi House and Lisboa Bakery. Flowers for the event were provided by Stems and Roses and Violets.

 

Mayor Susan Fennell addressed the meeting and spoke about the vision for downtown, the collaboration between the BDDC and the City and the promising future that is ahead of us.

 

The City Builder Keynote Speaker Ken Greenberg, author of Walking Home spoke for 40 minutes on his observations of the attributes of Brampton Downtown and identified the enhancement of lane ways, as was done in Melbourne Australia and the integration of all transit as being major advantages that Brampton Downtown holds in the GTA.

 

President Peter VanSickle delivered the President’s report on the activities of the past year including the Development Strategy and the opening of a new retail store location on Main Street North.

 

Julie Grondin updated the group on the wealth of marketing initiatives that are underway including the GO coupon book, the Host program and the Blank Canvas program.

 

Two board positions were up for renewal; one in the Tenant Class and one in the Owner Class.Peeyush Gupta was acclaimed in the Tenant Class.

 

Incumbent Don Naylor was the successful nominee in the Owner Class.John Cutruzzola was also running in the Owner Class.

 

It was an eventful night with a lot of material covered. There was a high level of engagement with the audience and the Table is set to get on with the tasks at hand and have Brampton Downtown realize its full potential.

The Rock School Grand Opening!!

Congratulations to The Rock School on their grand opening.  We welcome them to Brampton Downtown.

Volunteers Needed for Host Program

The BDDC is looking for volunteers to act as Hosts for Brampton Downtown.  Brampton Downtown Hosts will greet visitors and pedestrians, help with direction, inform the public about sales and specials, hand out coupons and directories, help with parking information and promote upcoming events.

Host volunteers will be outfitted in easily identifiable uniforms and will be walking a pre-determined path throughout the Brampton Downtown core.  Volunteer Orientation session:

Wednesday, April 4th - 7:00 - 8:00pm

Thursday, April 5th - 11:00 - 12noon
