BDDC Overview

The Brampton Downtown Development Corporation (BDDC) was launched in 2006 to attract new business and investment in residential, commercial and institutional development in Brampton Downtown.  Its chief mandate is to market and promote the downtown as an exciting opportunity for investors and a desirable place to live, work and visit.

This new organization builds on the success of the former Business Improvement Area (BIA) – the Brampton Downtown Business Association, which primarily served to beautify downtown, promote the area as a business centre and be an advocate for Brampton Downtown businesses and property owners.

The BDDC is Ontario's first economic development corporation created under new provincial legislation. As a public-partnership between the business community and the City of Brampton, the BDDC's mandate was expanded to include:

  • Marketing and promotion of Brampton Downtown
  • Attraction and retention of business
  • Recruitment of new residential, commercial and institutional investment

What is the relationship between the BDDC and City Hall?

  • The BDDC is a public-private partnership between the Brampton Downtown Business Community and the City of Brampton.  We are Brampton Downtown business association group that advocates on behalf of our contributing membership.
  • The BDDC enjoys a co-operative relationship with the City of Brampton and its various departments and staff.  This is vital as many issues require input and support from the City.
